Does This Bother Anyone Else?

Flip flops. Now don't get me wrong. Flip flops don't bother me. But what does bother me is the fact that the flip flop has become an acceptable form of footwear to pair with a dress. Like for going out. Or church. Or a party. Ummm, no! This has been driving me crazy for quite some time and I would really like to know if I'm alone or perhaps... not alone... In order to solve this problem I am planning to show some chic alternatives to the cursed flip flop. There is a time and a place people! But flip flops do not dress up an outfit. Ever. (Before continuing please let me say I am talking specifically about the type of flip flop that is made out of that weird sort of foam rubber material. The kind that you can find at Old Navy for $3 and quite frankly no amount of bling added to said flip flop makes these okay to wear for a dressy occasion.)

First here are a couple examples of what is NOT acceptable.

Don't be fooled. I know these are shiny. Still. No.

Now I took the liberty of browsing the selections at payless.com in case the reasoning behind this horrible debacle of a trend is cost. Spend a few more dollars on an actual shoe and I promise you won't regret it.

Rock Star Jelly Stone Sandal

Pretty, right? Do you see the difference?

Mork mirrored sling

I've featured these before. For good reason. They are a great CHIC and CHEAP alternative to "you know what".

I totally agree. I hate it when your at a quiet function like Sunday morning service and some chick gets up and walks down the aisle in her nasty flip flops.

I couldn't agree with you more! I wear my flip flops around the house and to the pool/beach but that is it!

Amen, sister! Flip flops, as one person put it, make you look like a duck. The only time I wear mine is when I'm washing my car in the driveway or when I go to get a pedicure so I can drive home without messing it up. And even then, they are bright pink Nike flip flops. Great post!

Oh I totally agree! I hate that! Girl in a cute dress, and then Havaiannas. Ugh. I have some jelly thongs with big gemstones on them that are like flip flops but much more put-together and some nice gold sandals that work much better with dresses. Just as comfy, too!

Haha, I love this post! I love your honesty even more! I totally 100% agree--really bugs me too. Thanks for showing off some great (cheap!) alternatives. No excuses now!

I agree 100% also. Unfortunately, the terms "dress code" and "fashion police" just don't apply any more. People are going to wear what they want to wear, no matter how inappropriate it is.

Some women, bless their "fashionless" hearts, just don't know any better LOL!

Yeah, I never got it either. Especially when people wear them for long walking trips. Then they wonder why their feet start hurting.
